The Cause

St. Mary's Student Refugee Program:

In some developing countries, getting an education can be dangerous. Since 1978, WUSC’s Student Refugee Program (SRP) has enabled more than 900 capable young men and women to resettle in Canada as permanent residents, pursue their education in an environment free of violence and fear, and transform their lives.

Since 1983 the Saint Mary’s WUSC Local Committee has sponsored 23 student refugees. This event has been created to support this program on our campus and will go to costs that the sponsored student coming to Saint Mary's in the 2009-2010 academic year will incur as they prepare to resettle in Halifax.

The Event

The Saint Mary’s World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Local Committee is holding an International Market and Live Music Fundraising Event in support of the Student Refugee Program.

Vendors and artists will sell their merchandise/art at the market in the afternoon then a variety of live musicians and performers will be on stage in the evening. Including a Brazilian band, spoken word, and local bands.

A silent auction will take place, and information on issues that refugees face will be shared.
Drinks and food will be available!

This event will take place on November 30th starting at 4 and end at 12am. It will be at Halifax's North St. Church (5657 North St).

This event is going to be a blast ! A great time to do Christmas shopping , meet new people, fund a great cause, learn about issues and have fun!

See you there!
